Oakland Nature Friends
Anyone who has visited Heidelmann Lodge knows what a special place our club members built.  The fees paid by our overnight guests do not begin to cover the annual expenses of the lodge, so your help is needed.  If you would like to make a financial donation in support of Heidelmann Lodge, please click on the "Donate" button now.

Heidelmann Lodge

Heidelmann Lodge is not a separate branch, but rather a benefit to enjoy for all California Nature Friends members from the Oakland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles branches. An ideal place for families young and old, we call it  "Our home away from home!"  We hike, ski, sing, and work together to prepare food and maintain the lodge.  We hold special weekend events throughout the year where all of our members participate, from the youngest to the oldest.

Heidelman Lodge, where we celebrate our German, Austrian, and Swiss alpine traditions, is a true family retreat! We extend our hospitality and friendship to those who enjoy the outdoors, the company of others and the sharing of special occasions and we invite you to share with us our love of nature, song, dance and "Gemütlichkeit."

Heidelmann Lodge is located in Norden, California, next to Sugar Bowl and minutes from Soda Springs and Boreal Ridge ski resorts. Not only is it a wonderful lodge to visit in the winter, but throughout the whole year as well.

The members from all the California branches help to maintain the lodge and its grounds, as well as share its availability. The member rate for lodging is quite reasonable; members may bring their family and sponsor up to seven (7) guests at a time to enjoy our beautiful lodge.

Members have the option to become Heidelmann Lodge boosters and receive an even greater discount on their visits. The lodge, which boasts a commercial kitchen with several cooking and cleaning stations, a grand living room with fireplace, a library, an outdoor balcony, a large mud room for ski apparel, a private room for mother and baby, and two dorm style rooms (male and female), can accommodate 100 guests.

Each year Heidelmann Lodge hosts the following events:

  • New Years Eve party
  • Presidents weekend
  • Trophy Race weekend
  • Summit Fest, which annually celebrates the burning of the original mortgage
Labor Day and Memorial Day are organized workdays when members of San Fransisco and Oakland work together to clean and maintain the lodge.  These weekends are not only vital to the long term health of the lodge, but they provide great camaraderie and fun.

Join us and help to preserve these traditions for future generations!
