The Oakland Nature Friends club is comprised of people who have common interests, namely, the connection to nature and the traditions and goals of the founders of the Naturfreunde Organization.
We are proud of our accomplishments at this club. The Nature Friends houses in California have been built and are maintained by the voluntary labor and contributions of our members and their guests. These houses are truly a labour of love.
In a changing world we hold on to the traditions of our founders. We hike, ski, dance, sing, and work together. We provide places where families can come together to enjoy nature, good friends, and good food. Many of our members have grown up in these clubs and now bring their children and grandchildren to our festivals and other activities. Especially here in Oakland, we nurture the traditions and culture of our immigrant founders who originated from German speaking countries. Consequently, the Oakland Nature Friends Club has become a favorite place for the German speaking community of the East Bay.
We extend our hospitality and friendship to all those who share the things we enjoy. We open our house and hearts to you and invite you to share our love of nature, song, dance, and ”Gemütlichkeit.” It is an honor to be a member of this wonderful organization.
We invite you to help us to preserve these traditions and cultures for future generations.
